(For Instructional Purposes by Faculty only.)
Lumiere was originally developed in 2008 for use in language courses by allowing for the creation of short clips from many types of films to better examine aspects of a different language, such as pronunciation, accent, and slang terms. Shortly after its initial release, instructors in courses on Filmmaking recognized how useful this resource could be in exploring concepts of how films are made. Since then, Lumiere has grown to be used in a wide variety of disciplines to showcase a range of topics.
Clips and films in Lumière may be used only as part of a course offered by not-for-profit educational institutions for students registered for credit at that institution.
The above gallery includes a small selection of the nearly 300 movies currently available through Lumiere for use in courses at NPC, but should be indicative of the types of movies in our NPC Lumiere collection. Lumiere has nearly 8,000 movies in their collection, but, to be available for use, both Lumiere and NPC must own the same version of the movie. If a movie is not currently available, it can be purchased to be included in the NPC Library and a request can be placed with Lumiere to have it added to their collection.
For instructors who are interested in more information about using Lumiere in your courses, please contact your local NPC librarian.
