This music CD is the first in a series of four music CDs produced by Mesa Media. Composer Ferrell Secakuku and educator Anita Poleahla join their expertise to bring songs that teach Hopilavayi using Hopi concepts. These songs are ideal for young Hopi children, especially ages 1-10.

This CD includes 55 lullaby and Hopi game songs performed by 7 Hopi women, representing the Hopi dialects of First Mesa and Second Mesa. We honor the creative women who performed the lullaby songs that make up this compilation.

These songs focus on simple philosophical Hopi teachings. Here we have a mixture of songs that include planting, the Hopi buffalo dance, premeditation for the summer months and self-evaluation. Hopi oral history teaches us that at the beginning of life in this fourth world, Maasawu’ allowed us to live on HIS land provided that we take care of it for HIM. HE provided us with a bag of seeds, a planting stick and a gourd of water. From that time, Hopi became farmers and stewards of this land and growing foods is our primary purpose.
